A former employee of Respawn Entertainment recently disclosed on LinkedIn that the studio has halted production on a project that had been in development for several years. The announcement came without any explanation regarding the reasons behind the decision.
Last year, journalist Jeff Grubb revealed that the project was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, such as Titanfall 3. Instead, Respawn had assembled a specialized "experimental team" to work on this project, hiring experts with a background in multiplayer shooters.
This isn't the first time Respawn has canceled a project; last year, they also shut down an arcade shooter codenamed Titanfall Legends.
The Titanfall series, launched in 2014, is celebrated for its unique combination of fast-paced action and mech piloting. Players can engage in combat either as agile pilots or in command of formidable Titans. The franchise has garnered a dedicated following due to its innovative gameplay, featuring parkour and intense team battles.
Currently, Respawn is shifting its focus to other ventures, including the development of the third installment in the Star Wars Jedi series and a new strategy game set in the Star Wars universe, which is being developed in partnership with Bit Reactor.
