Nintendo Direct/Indie World Showcase Recap

As predicted, Nintendo surprised us with a last-minute Nintendo Direct! The 40-minute presentation covered partner showcases and indie titles. While no first-party announcements were made, and the Switch successor remained unmentioned, the show delivered plenty of exciting reveals. Check out the video above, and I'll provide a detailed summary tomorrow.

Reviews & Mini-Views

EGGCONSOLE Star Trader PC-8801mkIIsr ($6.49)

This untranslated EGGCONSOLE release presents a familiar dilemma: is the game enjoyable despite the language barrier? Star Trader blends adventure and side-scrolling shooter elements, but neither aspect shines. The adventure segments feature appealing artwork, but the shooter sections suffer from choppy scrolling on the PC-8801, hindering the overall experience. The game's structure is unclear, with the adventure and shooter elements feeling disjointed.

The text-heavy adventure sections require player interaction, making the game nearly unplayable for those unfamiliar with Japanese. While some progress can be made through trial and error, the experience is significantly diminished without understanding the narrative. Star Trader offers a glimpse into gaming history but is ultimately let down by its technical limitations and language barrier.

Star Trader is a fascinating historical artifact, but its enjoyment is severely hampered by the abundance of Japanese text. While some experimentation is possible, a strong recommendation is difficult to give.

SwitchArcade Score: 3/5

New Releases

Crypt Custodian ($19.99)

This top-down action-adventure game follows Pluto, a recently deceased cat, on a quest to clean the afterlife palace. Explore, battle enemies with your broom, and meet a cast of quirky characters. If you enjoy this genre, this one's worth a look. It's a solid entry.
