Tencent's shareholding in Kuro Games has risen to approximately 51.4%, solidifying its position as the majority shareholder. This follows an initial investment in 2023 and the subsequent departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external investor in Kuro Games.

Maintaining Independence While Securing Stability

According to reports from Chinese news outlet Youxi Putao, Kuro Games will retain its operational independence despite Tencent's majority ownership. This mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games' official statement emphasizes that this acquisition will foster a "more stable external environment" and support its long-term independent strategy. Tencent has yet to publicly acknowledge the deal.

Kuro Games' Successful Portfolio

Kuro Games is a prominent Chinese game developer, known for its successful action RPG Punishing: Gray Raven and the recently released open-world adventure RPG Wuthering Waves. Both games have achieved significant commercial success, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue and continuing to receive regular updates. Wuthering Waves has even earned a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
