PC players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered have likely encountered a range of performance problems.
Digital Foundry's technical analysis describes the PC version's performance as severely lacking. Video producer Alex Battaglia noted it could be "one of the worst-performing games I’ve tested for Digital Foundry."
"Even on top-tier hardware, constant stuttering drastically hampers the experience, raising questions about how it passed quality checks for release," Battaglia remarked.
"Apart from the stuttering, the game is unusually demanding on system resources. Even if minor hitches don't bother you, you'll still need to lower settings to maintain a decent average frame rate."
It’s little surprise, then, that the most popular mod on Nexus Mods is P40L0's 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless).' In under a week, it has been downloaded over 386,000 times.
The mod description states:
"Definitive Unreal 'Engine.ini' adjustments designed to eliminate most stutters, boost performance and stability, lower input lag, and enhance image clarity—all without sacrificing visual quality."
"After months of testing with UE5, I’m sharing my ultimate custom 'Engine.ini' tweaks for the game," explained P40L0.
"My aim was to implement comprehensive optimizations—covering CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD—to eradicate stuttering, boost frame rates, reduce latency, and sharpen the image (by removing film grain and chromatic aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR, etc.), all without introducing visual bugs or crashes."

The response to the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stutter is gone! This is incredible, thank you!" wrote chubbyd07. "This .ini file works wonders. My frames jumped from 15–20 outside the prison to a steady 65–70, using a 3600XT, RTX 2060, and 20GB RAM," shared yeeto51. "Wait, what?! I went from 60fps on High at Waynon Priory to 90–110fps in the same spot. Magic!" exclaimed BabaSmith.
Despite the PC version’s issues, Oblivion Remastered continues to attract a massive player base, with strong concurrent player numbers on Steam and over four million players across all platforms. On Steam, the game maintains a 'Very Positive' user review rating.
However, a recent hotfix released on April 25 has disrupted graphics UI settings for Microsoft Store players, particularly for upscaling and anti-aliasing options. At the time of writing, players on the Microsoft Store (including Xbox Game Pass for PC) cannot adjust these settings due to a UI bug. Bethesda has acknowledged the problem and is working on a solution.
