Microsoft is reportedly preparing to release a remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved in 2026.
During the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Microsoft’s gaming head Phil Spencer hinted at several new titles arriving next year, including the upcoming Fable, the next Forza, Gears of War: E-Day, and “the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning.”
While this clearly points to Halo, reporter Mark Warren from The Verge confirmed it specifically refers to a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster.

Warren had previously reported on this game’s development, which is reportedly under consideration for release on competing platforms like the PlayStation 5. Microsoft previously remastered Halo: Combat Evolved in 2011 as Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, later integrating it into Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
This is not a brand-new Halo title—that project, we know, is being developed by Halo Studios, formerly 343 Industries, using Unreal Engine 5. In 2024, Halo Studios released a seven-minute video highlighting the results of Project Foundry—an experimental initiative demonstrating a Halo game built with Unreal Engine. Though more of a tech demo than a full game, it provided a glimpse of a fresh direction for Xbox’s flagship franchise following Halo Infinite’s 2021 release.
