Stellar Blade Sequel Confirmed by Developer

Author : Simon May 21,2025

Exciting news for fans of Stellar Blade—developer Shift Up has officially announced that a fully-fledged sequel is in the works. The original game, published by PlayStation and launched in April 2024, was well-received for its unique gameplay, which cleverly combined elements from NieR: Automata and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This positive reception has paved the way for the continuation of the franchise.

Shift Up, the Korean company behind the game, confirmed the sequel through a chart included in their latest financial results. The chart outlines the company's future plans and places the Stellar Blade sequel prominently among upcoming projects expected before 2027. Prior to the sequel's release, fans can look forward to a "platform expansion" for the original game, which is most likely referring to the PC version set to launch on June 11, 2025.

In addition to the Stellar Blade sequel, Shift Up is also gearing up for the release of Project Witches, a new multiplatform action RPG. This project remains shrouded in mystery, with full details yet to be revealed, but it's slated to join the company's lineup before 2027 as well.

Earlier this week, Shift Up addressed a PC region lock issue affecting Stellar Blade on Steam, which had blocked the game's store page in over 100 countries. The company stated they are "closely discussing" this matter with Sony to resolve it.

In IGN's review of Stellar Blade, the game was praised for its stunning visuals and solid action mechanics, drawing heavily on Sekiro-inspired combat. However, the review noted that the story and characters could use more depth, and some RPG elements, like sidequests, were found lacking. Despite these shortcomings, the game's engaging combat and exploration incentives were highlighted as major strengths.
