Krafton has taken a significant step to distance itself from the ongoing legal issues involving Ironmace Studios by rebranding Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons. This move primarily affects the game's name, with few, if any, other changes expected. The rebranding comes amidst Ironmace's legal battle with Nexon, who allege that Ironmace misused trade secrets. These allegations stem from the fact that Ironmace was founded by former Nexon employees, and Nexon claims they used assets and ideas developed during their tenure at the company to create Dark and Darker.
The lawsuit remains unresolved, but as we previously reported in February, there were indications that Dark and Darker Mobile might undergo a name change. That prediction has now been confirmed with the new title, Abyss of Dungeons.
No Difference
Fortunately, the name change does not appear to impact the core gameplay mechanics. Dark and Darker Mobile was already set to diverge from its original version with a new third-person perspective and other modifications, but fans can rest assured that the essence of the game remains intact.
For fans of Ironmace, this rebranding might be disappointing. However, there is hope that the studio's legal battles will resolve soon, allowing fans to enjoy Abyss of Dungeons as a companion to the main PC release. An upcoming soft launch is scheduled for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico.
