Bethesda Surprises Fans with Starfield Patch Amid Oblivion Remastered Buzz

Author : Nora May 16,2025

Amid the buzz surrounding The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has surprised fans with a new patch for Starfield, enhancing performance and mod support. The update introduces 'Very Low' display settings to boost performance on various devices, expands support for Creations (mods), and includes fixes for quests, vehicles, the user interface, and the Shattered Space DLC.

Currently available in Steam beta, PC players can opt into this update. Bethesda is actively seeking feedback and has detailed the patch notes on their website.

While this update primarily focuses on new features and bug fixes, Starfield enthusiasts are still eagerly awaiting news on potential DLCs. Launched in September 2023, Starfield marked Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years. However, it received mixed reviews compared to the studio's renowned Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. The Shattered Space expansion, released in September 2024, has unfortunately garnered a 'mostly negative' user review rating on Steam.

Despite reaching 15 million players, there have been concerns about Bethesda possibly shifting focus away from Starfield. Yet, the studio has reassured fans of "exciting things" planned for the game in the coming year. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed their commitment to Starfield and announced at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. In an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard expressed their goal to release annual story expansions for "hopefully a very long time."

Speculation about Starfield coming to PlayStation 5 intensified in March after fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda’s official Creations website. Although the related Creation was removed, the sighting sparked discussions about the game potentially expanding to PS5 from its current PC and Xbox exclusivity.

As attention shifts to Oblivion Remastered, Starfield players are hopeful for big announcements at Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. Could we see a PS5 version announcement and a new expansion revealed, perhaps even shadow-dropped like Oblivion Remastered? The gaming community won't have to wait long to find out.
