Dredge takes you on a Lovecraftian-inspired fishing adventure

Well, if you were hoping to ply the waters of Greater Marrow in Black Salt Games' Lovecraftian-inspired fishing horror we've got some bad news. Dredge's hotly-anticipated mobile port has been delayed until February 2025! But it's not all disappointing as Black Salt has also announced that sign-ups are now open for a new closed beta to accompany this delay.

For those not familiar, Dredge sees you taking on the role of a fisherman in the town of Greater Marrow. Your job starts off easy enough, fishing out fresh catch to sell to the townsfolk. But aside from weirder creatures torn from the ocean depths, mysterious beings and all manner of other monstrous weirdness, there's also the looming threat of losing your mind and strange happenings on a mysterious island nearby...

You can sign up for the new closed mobile beta of Dredge using this Google form. While it may have been delayed, the bevvy of awards, critical accolades and more that Dredge has accrued tells me this is a release more than worth waiting for, if you haven't already played it.

Fishing isn't easy

Having played Dredge myself on PC, I can say that this kind of postponement is to be expected. This is, after all, a rather expansive world to translate to mobile. But if it's anything like the main release, there'll be ample content to explore. The decision to hold another closed beta is also, I reckon, a sound idea as it means more players can provide feedback and get their hands on this excellent mix of horror and fishing.

Be sure to check out developer Black Salt Games' YouTube channel for a look behind the scenes at the development of Dredge, and lore from its world! And if you need something to tide you over in the meantime, might we humbly offer up our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far) for you to peruse?
