Updates on Lies of P: Overture DLC

Exploring Future Possibilities

Playing Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test felt refreshing to Lies of P director Choi Ji-Won, sparking new ideas for potential projects. In a conversation with Eurogamer at the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi discussed his approach to the Souls-like genre. His admiration for FromSoftware's games has previously influenced the development of Lies of P.

Reflecting on the upcoming Elden Ring title, Choi shared, "I tried [Nightreign], and it felt incredibly fresh and innovative. That experience reinforced my belief in their talented development team—they constantly expand their creative boundaries and vision, which clearly shows. It motivated me to ensure the Overture DLC delivers the best possible experience."

Choi also expressed openness to creating multiplayer games in the future, stating, "For our upcoming projects, we are definitely exploring all kinds of possibilities."

Although he enjoys FromSoftware's work, Choi emphasized that his inspiration doesn't come from a single source. In an interview with Games Radar+ during GDC 2025, he explained, "I enjoy many different types of games. The varied experiences and ideas I gather from these titles help shape the unique world of Lies of P. Ultimately, it's a blend of diverse inspirations from my favorite games, all coming together to create the Lies of P experience I'm crafting for our fans."

Overture Playtime: 15–20 Hours for Veteran Players

According to Choi, the Overture DLC offers around 15–20 hours of gameplay for seasoned players, featuring numerous boss encounters and content originally planned for the base game. He elaborated, "Overture is closely connected to the original game, and developing it felt like completing the Lies of P journey—which presented its own challenges."

This prequel expansion takes players back to the final days of the haunting city of Krat, following the story of a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new concepts, player feedback, and previously unused ideas that couldn't be included at launch due to production constraints. Choi compared the release to a Director’s Cut, describing it as a fitting conclusion to the overall game.

"When we launched the base game, we had to prioritize quality, which meant we couldn't include everything at once," he noted. Choi credited the community’s strong support after the initial release for motivating the team to realize their original vision through this expansion.

Overture’s Story is Separate from the Base Game’s Ending

During an IGN interview at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the upcoming DLC does not tie into the base game's final cutscene. Without giving away spoilers, the original ending offered hints about where NEOWIZ might take the Lies of P universe next.

Choi had previously confirmed a sequel in a Director’s Letter video from November 2023, suggesting that the ending scene could relate to future content. However, the developers remain secretive about any details regarding Lies of P 2.

"When we share news or media assets, you can be confident that we're fully prepared to present them," Choi assured. "This reflects our commitment to quality, even with past challenges. That's my promise—when we release new content, we'll be ready to share it with our fans."

He recommended that players revisit the base game to uncover clues about the DLC's content, adding that he's seen many fan theories online, some of which are surprisingly accurate.

Lies of P: Overture is scheduled for a Summer 2025 release, with no exact date announced yet. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates, check out our article below!
