Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle
- $499.99 at Best Buy
Opting for the Switch 2 bundle with Super Mario Kart World can save you $30 compared to buying the console and game separately. Keep in mind, though, that the bundle comes with a digital copy of the game. If you're a fan of physical copies and are willing to spend an extra $30, you can preorder the standalone version instead.
Yes, the MSRP Is $79.99
When purchased on its own, Mario Kart World comes with a price tag of $79.99, which is $10 more than the standard price for AAA titles on PlayStation and Xbox this generation. While I'm not thrilled about the price increase between console generations, it's clear that the cost of game development has escalated. However, I'm optimistic that the scale and depth of Mario Kart World will justify the higher cost.
What Is Mario Kart World?
Mario Kart World is set to be the most ambitious Mario Kart game to date. Drawing inspiration from open-world racing games like the Forza Horizon series, this title allows for seamless exploration across the Mushroom Kingdom. In Grand Prix mode, you can transition from one race to the next without interruption, driving from the finish line of one track to the starting line of another.
The game's dynamic environment reacts to weather changes and the time of day, affecting visibility and traction as you race. You're not limited to the tracks either; Nintendo promises you can drive "virtually everywhere." With 24 drivers per race, Mario Kart World ups the ante on the series' traditional multiplayer experience.
A new mode, Knockout Tour, challenges you to race across the open world, hitting checkpoints with specific placement requirements. Fall behind, and you're out of the race. For a more relaxed experience, Free Roam mode lets you and your friends explore at leisure, snapping photos along the way.
Stay tuned for more information during the Nintendo Direct on April 17. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview of Mario Kart World for deeper insights into what awaits you on June 5.
