Mario Kart World Presents a New Vision of the Mushroom Kingdom
A Track-Focused World Built for Racing Thrills

Mario Kart World assembles iconic Mario series landmarks into an entirely new layout. Producer Kosuke Yabuki clarifies this isn't the traditional Mushroom Kingdom setting fans might expect.
In a June 3 interview with The Verge, Yabuki revealed the interconnected map prioritizes racing dynamics over geographical accuracy. "While exploring this world, you'll encounter familiar Mushroom Kingdom elements like question blocks and warp pipes," he explained. "But every mountain elevation and desert stretch was carefully designed specifically for Mario Kart World's gameplay needs."

Yabuki emphasized the team focused on creating racetrack-friendly environments rather than replicating real-world geography. Each design alteration required comprehensive adjustments across the interconnected world. "Terrain modification becomes surprisingly complex," he noted. "Changing one element necessitates reworking multiple others." This challenge intensified with the expanded 24-racer format, prompting fundamental redesigns of core gameplay elements.
Launch Update Enhances Gameplay Features

Nintendo has unveiled Version 1.1.0 update details arriving alongside Mario Kart World's launch. The patch activates CameraPlay functionality – a Switch 2-exclusive feature enabling real-time player video integration through Nintendo's optional external camera.
The update also enables online and LAN multiplayer modes, adds ghost data sharing for Time Trials, expands the starting character selection, and removes course selection time limits during local wireless play. With its innovative interconnected Mushroom Kingdom racing environment, Mario Kart World accelerates onto Nintendo Switch 2 consoles worldwide on June 5, 2025.
