Silksong to Launch on Original Switch as Planned

Author : Madison May 14,2025

Fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong can breathe a sigh of relief as developer Team Cherry has confirmed that the highly anticipated game will still be coming to the original Nintendo Switch, alongside the upcoming Switch 2. This reassurance comes after the game's brief appearance at the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 on April 2, which led to speculation about its platform exclusivity.

Silksong Developer Reaffirms Release For Switch 1

Originally announced in 2019 for PC and the first-generation Nintendo Switch, Silksong expanded its platform availability to include PlayStation and Xbox consoles later on. However, the recent Nintendo Direct for the next-gen Switch 2 sparked concerns among fans that the game might skip the current-gen console. Addressing these concerns, Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Handler, Matthew Griffin, took to Twitter (X) on April 8 to clarify that Silksong will indeed be available on both the original Switch and the Switch 2.

While there are no official details yet on how the versions will differ, it's expected that the Switch 2 version will benefit from the console's enhanced capabilities, potentially offering higher resolutions and improved performance.

New Silksong Images Revealed

Following the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2, new images of Silksong were unveiled on Nintendo Japan's official website. These images, while showcasing familiar locations from the game, displayed noticeable graphical enhancements compared to their initial reveal in 2019. Although Team Cherry remains tight-lipped about most details, the appearance of Silksong at the Switch 2 Direct and the release of new images have fueled speculation that a release date announcement could be imminent. Additionally, recent updates to Silksong's Steam metadata have further heightened fans' anticipation for a potential release this year.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The game is expected to launch sometime this year, as hinted during the Switch 2 Direct. For the latest updates on Silksong, be sure to check out our detailed coverage below!
