Square Enix Cancels Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link

Author : Bella May 19,2025

Square Enix has officially canceled their upcoming mobile spin-off of the beloved ARPG franchise, Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link. Despite multiple delays, including the much-anticipated Android closed beta test, the company has decided to halt development and shift their focus entirely to the eagerly awaited Kingdom Hearts IV.

Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link was set to explore a previously unseen chapter in the Kingdom Hearts saga, integrating GPS technology with ARPG combat. Players were expected to wield the iconic keyblades in battles against the menacing Heartless, aiming to thwart their destructive plans. A unique feature of Missing-Link was its GPS integration, which promised to allow players to engage with the game's world across various global locations remotely. However, the specifics of how this would work remained unclear, and this ambiguity might have contributed to the project's cancellation.

Square Enix's decision to cancel yet another mobile project has become somewhat of a trend, often attributed to the dense nature of their critically acclaimed catalog. While new mobile releases are well-received in Japan, capturing an international audience can be challenging. This issue, however, was unlikely to impact Kingdom Hearts, leading to speculation that the core concept of Missing-Link was difficult to execute effectively. As a result, the developers have chosen to prioritize the upcoming mainline entry, Kingdom Hearts IV.
