Could Clash of Clans, or another major Supercell property, be heading to the big screen? It's more likely than you might think. The Finnish mobile gaming giant has recently put out a call to hire a senior film and TV development executive, signaling a potential move into the world of cinema, much like Rovio did with their Angry Birds movie back in 2016.
While it's not a done deal just yet, as pointed out by our colleagues at PocketGamer.biz, the job description doesn't suggest an immediate start on a film project. Instead, it focuses on building a strategy for live-action and animated films, covering both theatrical releases and streaming platforms. This indicates a more strategic, long-term approach rather than an immediate dive into movie production.
In business terms, this role seems more about observing and planning. However, it's reasonable to assume that Supercell might already be sketching out preliminary ideas on how to bring their games to life on screen, should they decide to move forward with film and/or animation projects.
Clash for the ages
Supercell has been pushing boundaries with their game catalog, venturing into exciting crossovers and collaborations, such as their partnership with WWE. This trend suggests that moving into film could be a natural next step for the developer.
Even though a significant amount of time has passed since Clash of Clans' initial release, it's worth remembering that the highly successful Angry Birds movie came out seven years after the original game. Clash of Clans still boasts a strong audience, and Supercell has newer IPs like Mo.co that could be perfect for a more family-oriented film.
We'll have to keep an eye on how this unfolds. In the meantime, if you're looking for something new to play, why not check out our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week?
