Valorant Implements Anti-Cheat Updates After Major Ban Wave

Summary

  • Valorant is implementing ranked rollbacks to combat hackers by reversing progress or rank if a match is affected by cheaters.
  • These new measures aim to penalize cheaters and ensure fair play for all Valorant players.
  • Players on the same team as hackers will retain their rank rating, avoiding unfair losses.

Valorant is taking decisive action against hackers with the introduction of ranked rollbacks, a new strategy designed to address the recent surge in cheating. Phillip Koskinas, Valorant’s head of anti-cheat, has warned cheaters that Riot Games can now "hit so much harder" and detailed the forthcoming changes.

Cheating and hacking have long been challenges for online gaming communities, disrupting fair play and diminishing the gaming experience. Despite Valorant boasting one of the most robust anti-cheat systems in the industry, the game has recently faced an uptick in hackers. In response, Riot Games is implementing stricter measures to penalize those who cheat.

Koskinas took to Twitter to address the cheating issue in Valorant, reassuring the community that Riot is actively working on solutions. As part of this effort, the studio will soon implement ranked rollbacks, which will reverse players' progress or rank if their match was compromised by cheaters. He highlighted the effectiveness of Riot's Vanguard system, sharing a chart that showed the number of bans issued in January, peaking on January 13.

Riot Games' Future Valorant Bans Will Include Ranked Rollbacks

A concerned player asked about the fairness of winning a match with a cheater on their team, noting that this scenario is unfair to both the opposing team and teammates of the hacker. Koskinas clarified that players on the same team as a hacker will retain their rank rating, while the opposing team will have their rating restored. He acknowledged that this approach might be inflationary but expressed confidence in moving forward with it.

Valorant's Vanguard system, which operates at kernel-level security on PCs, has proven highly effective in detecting and banning cheaters. Its success has inspired other popular games, such as Call of Duty, to adopt similar anti-cheat measures. Despite these efforts, hackers continue to find new ways to infiltrate games.

Valorant has already banned thousands of players, giving hope to those affected by hackers in their ranked matches. Riot Games remains committed to resolving this issue and curbing the latest wave of cheating. The effectiveness of the new ranked rollback system will be closely watched by the gaming community.
