Xbox Series X and S: Buy Before Price Increase

Author : Gabriel May 21,2025

Microsoft has recently announced a price increase for Xbox consoles, controllers, and upcoming first-party games. The new prices for hardware are effective immediately, while the price for new first-party games will rise to $79.99 starting this holiday season. If you're considering purchasing an Xbox Series X|S or a new controller, it's advisable to act quickly to take advantage of the current prices. The updated prices are already reflected on Xbox’s official store, though some retailers may still offer the older, lower prices for a limited time.

Xbox Series X

Xbox Series X - 1TB

Current Price: $499.99 at Amazon (Going Up to $599 Soon)

Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition - $449 (Going Up to $549 Soon)

The Xbox Series X stands out as the flagship console from Xbox, boasting the power to run games at 4K resolution. As someone who owns both an Xbox Series X and a PS5, I can confidently say I prefer the Xbox for its robust performance and the ability to enjoy physical games. However, if you're comfortable with an all-digital library, the Digital Edition offers a $50 saving.

Xbox Series S

Xbox Series S - 512GB

Current Price: $299 (Going Up to $379 Soon)

Xbox Series S - 1TB

Current Price: $349 (Going Up to $429 Soon)

The Xbox Series S is an excellent choice for gamers who are ready to embrace a fully digital gaming experience. While it doesn't match the raw power of the Series X and is designed for 1440p gameplay, it remains a strong contender in its own right. Given the increasing size of modern games, I recommend opting for the 1TB model to avoid frequent storage issues, especially considering the cost of additional storage.

Xbox Wireless Controllers

Out August 13: Xbox Wireless Controller – Sky Cipher Special Edition

Current Price: $60.96 at Amazon (Going Up to $79.99)

Several Xbox controllers are also seeing price adjustments. Not all models are affected equally, and the pricing has been more dynamic than with the consoles. Here are the upcoming price changes for Xbox controllers:

  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Core): $64.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Color): $69.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller - Special Edition: $79.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller - Limited Edition: $89.99 (up from $79.99)
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Core): $149.99 (up from $139.99)
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full): $199.99 (up from $179.99)

With these price hikes in mind, now is a great time to consider your Xbox purchases to lock in the current prices before they increase.
