Valve Prepares Adjustment of Deadlock Development

Deadlock 2025: Fewer, Bigger Updates Planned by Valve

Valve has announced a shift in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, prioritizing larger, less frequent patches over the consistent bi-weekly updates of 2024. This change, communicated via the official Deadlock Discord, aims to streamline development and allow more time for internal iteration and external player feedback to settle before subsequent updates.

While this news may disappoint players accustomed to the constant stream of updates, Valve assures that future patches will be more substantial and event-driven, offering a more impactful experience. The recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay alterations, serves as a preview of this new approach.

Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA, launched on Steam earlier in 2024 after initial gameplay leaks. Despite the competitive hero-shooter landscape, including the popular Marvel Rivals, Deadlock has carved a niche with its distinctive steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay. The game currently boasts 22 playable characters, expandable to 30 with the Hero Labs mode. Its innovative anti-cheat measures and diverse character roster have also garnered significant praise.

According to Valve developer Yoshi, the previous two-week update cycle proved challenging for internal development and external player adaptation. The new approach will feature larger, less frequent major patches, supplemented by hotfixes as needed. The company is committed to expanding the game's content in the new year, with the expectation of continued limited-time events and special game modes.

An official release date for Deadlock remains unannounced, but further updates and announcements are anticipated in 2025.
