MageTrain is a quirky combination of Snake and roguelikes, coming soon on Android and iOS

Author : Matthew Mar 21,2025

Get ready to assemble a magical battalion of mages in MageTrain, a fresh take on classic Snake gameplay launching next month on iOS and Android! Developed by Tidepool Games, this free-to-play mobile roguelike blends auto-battler mechanics with strategic positioning for a surprisingly deep experience that's easy to pick up.

Inspired by Nimble Quest, MageTrain expands on the concept of leading a growing chain of heroes, adding more characters, dungeons, and a significantly enhanced skill system. Guide your magical train of warriors through enemy-filled arenas, carefully positioning each hero to maximize their attacks and avoid deadly collisions. Pre-orders are open now!

At launch, you'll have nine unlockable heroes, each with unique abilities that shift depending on their position in the train. Some heroes lead the charge, while others offer crucial support from the rear. Explore eight dungeons, battle 28 enemy types, and experiment with 30 different skills to create powerful team synergies.

MageTrain features a roguelike structure with a path-based system reminiscent of Slay the Spire and FTL. Each run offers randomized challenges, allowing you to collect gold, power-ups, and upgrades to refine your strategy. Failure is a learning opportunity, making every playthrough a unique adventure.

Strategic positioning is paramount. While your heroes auto-attack, you must skillfully maneuver your growing train to dodge hazards and optimize your battle formations. The longer your run, the stronger your heroes become, but one wrong move can end your journey instantly. Can you master MageTrain and build the ultimate magical battalion?
