Hideki Kamiya Expresses Interest in a Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Would Be Built From the Ground Up
The trend of remaking iconic games continues to gain momentum among legendary developers, with titles such as Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the way. The original Devil May Cry (DMC) could soon join that list, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has revealed his interest in helming a remake.
During a YouTube Q&A session on May 8, Kamiya responded to fan inquiries about potential remakes and sequels. When asked how he would approach a DMC remake, he replied, "A project like that—yes, I would love to take it on."
Originally Launched in 2001

Devil May Cry first debuted in 2001 and was initially conceived as a version of Resident Evil 4. However, the project evolved so dramatically from its core concept that Capcom ultimately decided to release it as a standalone title: Devil May Cry.
Now, nearly a quarter-century after its release, Kamiya shared the personal backstory that fueled the game’s creation. He recounted that in 2000, he went through a difficult breakup that left him feeling deeply depressed. That emotional experience left a lasting impression and became the creative spark behind Devil May Cry.

Kamiya admitted that he rarely revisits his own games after they launch, and Devil May Cry is no exception. Still, he occasionally sees gameplay footage and is reminded that DMC is very much a product of its time, with design sensibilities that reflect its 24-year history. If he were to develop a remake, he would reconstruct it completely, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
At the moment, he isn’t dwelling on it too much, noting that he typically only brainstorms ideas when a project is officially confirmed. Should the opportunity arise, he has a message for Capcom: "Just leave it to me." As he put it, "When the time comes—I’ll deliver. That’s what I do."In addition to Devil May Cry, Kamiya has also mentioned a desire to revisit Viewtiful Joe with a fresh remake. These revelations have undoubtedly ignited hope among his supporters that these cherished games may soon return in revitalized form.
