When Spider-Man 2 hit the PC market via Steam and Epic Games Store, it was released without any protective measures, making it impossible to hack the game prior to its launch. The reason behind this was straightforward: the PC version didn't offer any pre-order or pre-download options, and the game's distribution size was a hefty 140 gigabytes.
Yet, just an hour after its release, hackers managed to download and crack the game's distribution. As anticipated, Spider-Man 2 did not employ any sophisticated defense mechanisms.
Sony kept a low profile in advertising the project, and the system requirements for Spider-Man 2 were only revealed a day before its PC launch. On Steam, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 currently ranks seventh among Sony's major releases, trailing behind not just God of War and Horizon, but also Days Gone.
Initial player feedback has been lukewarm. At the time of this post, the game has garnered a 55% positive review rating from 1,280 reviews. Players have reported issues with optimization, frequent crashes, and various bugs.
In contrast, Spider-Man Remastered continues to lead the series in terms of online presence on PC, having once achieved a peak of over 66,000 concurrent players. Whether Spider-Man 2 will come close to matching its predecessor's record will become clearer over the upcoming Friday and weekend. If the current sales momentum persists, the game stands a fair chance of achieving a respectable outcome.
