Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Boasts Impressive Performance on Consoles

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is shaping up to be a visually stunning and smoothly performing game across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Dive in to discover how KCD2 performs on various systems and the customizable settings available to players.

Photo-Realistic Look With CryEngine

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) is making waves with its impressive performance across different platforms. Reports indicate that both PlayStation and Xbox consoles can run the game seamlessly at both 30fps and 60fps. The PS5 Pro, in particular, enhances the game's visuals with its advanced rendering capabilities. KCD2's use of CryTek's CryEngine sets it apart, delivering a photo-realistic experience that few games can match.

Warhorse Studios, the developers behind KCD2, have continued to use CryEngine, building on their experience from the first game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1 (KCD1). Their familiarity with the engine has allowed them to refine and enhance the sequel's features significantly.

According to PC Gamer, CryEngine stands out for its old-school rendering approach, focusing on performance with limited shaders and basic lighting. Despite this, KCD2 achieves its photo-realistic visuals through the use of physically based materials. Eurogamer highlights that CryEngine's sparse voxel octree global illumination (SVOGI) contributes to realistic lighting effects, such as convincing light bounces from torches and reflections on metallic surfaces.

PlayStation And Xbox Consoles Have 30 FPS and 60 FPS Options

For console players, PS5 and Xbox Series X offer two distinct modes: a fidelity mode that runs at 30fps with a resolution of 1440p, and a performance mode that boosts to 60fps at 1080p. The Xbox Series S is limited to fidelity mode only. Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro stands out with a single mode that defaults to 60fps at 1296p, utilizing PSSR upscaling to achieve 4K visuals.

In fidelity mode, both PS5 and Xbox Series X see enhanced rendering with more detailed foliage and improved shadow casting, enhancing the visual quality of outdoor scenes and ambient occlusion. The PS5 Pro pushes these enhancements even further, offering sharper imagery, superior ambient occlusion, and higher object quality, resulting in an overall superior visual experience.

Upscaling Is Completely Optional For PC

For PC enthusiasts, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers flexible upscaling options, allowing players to tailor the game's settings to their hardware. PC Gamer notes that while upscaling options are limited to FSR and DLSS, there are no XeSS options for Intel cards, nor are there sharpening options or frame generation features for additional graphical enhancements.

Despite being built on the performance-oriented CryEngine, KCD2 remains demanding on GPUs, especially at 4K resolutions with maximum settings. However, the game is highly scalable, offering five quality presets—low, medium, high, ultra, and experimental—to help players find the optimal balance between performance and visuals.

KCD2 also provides an in-depth guide to help players prepare their systems for the game, detailing system requirements for CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage, ensuring players are well-informed before diving into the game.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to launch on February 4, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more information and updates, be sure to visit our Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 page.
