The Next Battlefield Spotlights the Destruction in Store for Its Gameplay

Author : Lily May 06,2025

Destruction has long been a defining feature of the Battlefield series, and for the upcoming installment, DICE is set to intensify the chaos and rubble even further. The developer recently released a video and a Battlefield Labs Community Update, giving fans a glimpse into what they can expect from the next game. In the showcased pre-alpha footage, we see DICE's innovative destruction mechanics in action, with an explosive blast tearing down a building's side, thereby creating a new route through the structure.

Destruction opens up creative tactical opportunities for players. According to the Community Update, DICE is enhancing gameplay depth by enabling players to reshape their surroundings. Whether it's breaching a wall for an ambush or forging a new path to a strategic point, altering the environment can provide a significant advantage.

"We're designing destruction around easily identifiable visual and audio language that lets you understand what can be destroyed, altered, or transformed through gameplay," DICE stated. "We aim to make destruction an integral part of your Battlefield experience to create an intuitive, fun, and rewarding environment where you feel empowered to shape the world around you."

Various impacts will affect structures differently; while explosives are effective, bullets can also gradually chip away at walls, allowing players to shoot through them. Audio and visual effects will provide feedback, signaling that players' actions are having an impact.

The aftermath of destruction leaves lasting effects on the battlefield. For instance, rubble from a destroyed building can serve as cover, adding another layer of strategy. It's clear that the next Battlefield game has a strong focus on destruction.

Dubbed "Battlefield 6" by fans, the next installment is gradually taking shape. While official details are sparse, gameplay leaks have been met with enthusiasm from the community. The game is set in a modern environment and is slated for release within Electronic Arts' fiscal year 2026, spanning from April 2025 to March 2026, though this could shift depending on moves by major competitors.

With significant effort being poured into this new entry, the upcoming Battlefield game appears to be going all out. Perfecting the level of destruction is undoubtedly a promising move forward.
