Stromford and Bauk: A Glimpse into the Unknown

The Witcher 4: Unveiling New Territories and Monstrous Threats Following the December 14th, 2024 Game Awards, Gamertag Radio's Parris spoke with The Witcher 4's director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga. The interview unveiled the upcoming game's expansion into uncharted territories and the introduction of terrifying new creatures.

Ciri's journey will lead players to previously unexplored areas of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village shown in the trailer as Stromford, a place where unsettling rituals involving young girls are performed to appease a dark entity.

This entity, revealed as the monster Bauk, is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a "tricky bastard," a creature that instills primal fear in its victims. And Bauk is just the beginning; players can expect to encounter a host of other new and formidable monsters.

The Witcher 4: Unveiling New Territories and Monstrous Threats While Kalemba expressed his enthusiasm for the new locations and monsters, he remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising a truly unique experience within the familiar setting of the Continent.

A subsequent Skill UP interview on December 15th, 2024, confirmed that Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, it suggests Ciri's adventures will extend beyond the regions explored by Geralt.

Revolutionizing NPCs in The Witcher 4

The Witcher 4: Unveiling New Territories and Monstrous Threats The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted CD Projekt Red's commitment to enhancing the game's NPCs. Parris noted the increased diversity in the Witcher 4 trailer compared to Witcher 3's reused models. Kalemba responded by emphasizing their focus on creating unique lives and individual stories for every NPC. The close-knit nature of a secluded village like Stromford will influence NPC interactions with Ciri and other characters.
