Capcom Launches First-Ever Game Development Competition for Students
Capcom is fostering industry growth through education with its inaugural Capcom Games Competition. This student-focused tournament utilizes Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE, aiming to invigorate the Japanese video game industry by bridging the gap between academia and industry.
A Collaborative Approach to Game Development
The competition encourages teamwork and practical experience. Teams of up to 20 students, each assigned roles mirroring professional game development, will collaborate on game creation over six months. Capcom developers will provide mentorship, guiding students through advanced game development techniques. Winning teams will receive invaluable production support and potential commercialization opportunities.
Eligibility and Timeline
The competition is open to Japanese university, graduate school, and vocational school students aged 18 and older. The application window opens December 9, 2024, and closes January 17, 2025.
Leveraging the Power of RE ENGINE
The competition utilizes Capcom's RE ENGINE (Reach for the Moon Engine), initially developed for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017. This powerful engine has since powered numerous successful Capcom titles, including recent Resident Evil installments, Dragon's Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. Its ongoing evolution ensures high-quality game development.
