Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to offer players a significantly greater degree of freedom than the studio's previous projects. Inspired by the likes of Elden Ring, the developers aim to incorporate similar mechanics that emphasize open-world exploration. Journalist Ben Hanson has shared insights indicating that the game will be set on a single expansive planet where players will delve into the mysteries of a long-lost civilization and explore a new religion, which is poised to be a central theme in the narrative. While it remains to be seen how closely the game will align with traditional open-world concepts, it's clear that the developers are steering away from the linear storytelling that characterized their earlier works.

The Heretic Prophet marks the studio's inaugural project where players will navigate the game world solo, without companions or allies. Neil Druckmann has expressed that the studio's goal is to evoke a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe, while simultaneously exploring themes of faith and religion. The story is set in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is here that players will follow the journey of bounty hunter Jordan Moon, who arrives on the planet as part of her contract.

Druckmann also highlighted that the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet drew inspiration from titles such as Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This influence suggests a move away from conventional hints towards a narrative style where players are encouraged to piece together the story from scattered fragments. This approach promises a more immersive and engaging experience for players, challenging them to uncover the deeper layers of the game's universe.

Announced at TGA 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet still awaits a confirmed release date, keeping fans eagerly anticipating more details about this ambitious new venture.
