Revised Script for Voice Acting

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will feature an updated script tailored for voice performances. In a June 21 interview with JP Games, original writer and editor Yasumi Matsuno confirmed the story remains unchanged, but the script itself has undergone significant revisions.
Matsuno explained the remaster aims to "re-present all the captivating and enjoyable elements of the original 1997 PlayStation game in a modern format." The script was specifically refined to enhance the audience's reading and listening experience.

He added, "This required adjustments to nearly the entire script. We adopted a 'listening-first' approach to properly support the new voice acting."
Matsuno humorously noted that some phrasing changes might reflect his own evolving perspective over time. "If my writing has improved, that's a positive. If it's simply a sign of my aging perception, then I apologize," he said with a laugh.
Introducing Final Fantasy Tactics to a New Generation

The upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster will include two distinct versions: a Classic version faithful to the original and an Enhanced version with improved visuals and features. Fans have questioned why the game didn't receive a full HD-2D visual overhaul like recent Square Enix titles such as Dragon Quest and Live A Live.
In a follow-up interview on June 22, Director Kazutoyo Maehiro and Art Director Hiroshi Minagawa clarified the rationale behind the dual versions and their visual direction.

Maehiro stated the team's goal was to introduce Final Fantasy Tactics to a contemporary audience. Simply re-releasing the 30-year-old presentation wouldn't resonate with modern players, leading to the creation of the Enhanced version. However, recognizing the original fanbase's desire for an authentic experience, they also preserved a Classic version.
"Rebuilding the original game from scratch essentially meant developing two titles simultaneously," Maehiro elaborated. "Considering staffing and budget, it was a major undertaking. However, we felt it was a worthwhile way to give back to the fans who have supported the game for so long."

Minagawa revealed the team explored using 3D models and detailed maps but ultimately chose to preserve the original sprite-based art. "Re-examining the original graphics data reminded us of the ingenious techniques the developers used to work within the technological constraints of the time," he explained.
While the team applied HD-2D development principles, Minagawa noted key aesthetic differences. "The color palette and sprite composition create a distinct atmosphere compared to titles like OCTOPATH TRAVELER, but the underlying technical approach is similar."

After nearly three decades, Final Fantasy Tactics remains a beloved classic. This new remaster, designed to appeal to both veterans and newcomers, ensures the legacy of this iconic turn-based strategy game continues.
